The Best Synthetic Motor Oil Tested

About a month ago I wrote a article on motor oil pertaining to the loss of the Zinc additive and the effects it has on motors, especially the older type motors(flat tappet camshaft).Iam always looking for ways to improve motor life and performance in my vehicles.I was reading a article on oil testing and testing procedures that was done in November 2008.The testing is done in accordance with the American Society Of Testing And Materials. This test procedure determines the level of protection and performance that the oil is capable of delivering. These tests that they perform on the motor oil are very intense. Here is the definitions of the six tests performed.

1) Thin film oxygen uptake test; measures oxidation stability of engine oil, resistance to heat and contaminants.

2) Noack Volatility test;measures evaporation loss of oil in high temperature service, severe duty, poor circulation, fuel consumption, wear and emissions.

3) Pour Point test; measures the lowest temperature at which a fluid will flow, measured at 0 degrees and below.

4) Total Base Number; measures a lubricants reserve alkalinity for fighting acids and engine by-products.

5) Cold Cranking Simulator; indicates how a lubricant can impact cold weather starting, high shear rates and viscosity, drag on moving parts.

6) Four-Ball wear test; evaluates the protection of the engine oil under pressure and sliding motion, the size of the scar determines the protection.

The eleven motor oils tested were 10W30 synthetic and synthetic blend and here is the list.

1) Amsoil synthetic 2) Castrol GTX 3) Chevron Supreme 4) Shell Formula 5)Valvoline Synpower 6) Mobil1 Extended Performance 7) Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 8) Kendall GT-1 High Performance 9) Pennzoil Platinum 10) Quaker State Horse Power 11) Trop Artic Synthetic Blend.

The other oils missing from the test for what ever reason or Redline,Lucas,Motul and Royal Purple.

The test run on these oils was developed to assist the consumer in making a decision about which lubricant is most suitable for his or hers vehicle. When testing concluded,Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oil emerged as the top performing oil in the group.None of the oils listed outperformed Amsoil in any of the six tests. In that very same article a comparision test also revealed the total cost of using Amsoil is less over 25,000 miles than the competing motor oils.

Just telling the top and not ranking the other 10 makes this rather useless, sorry.
